Fred “The Hammer” Williamson is a former NFL 3-time Pro Bowl cornerback, AFL champion, and actor whose colorful personality catapulted him to fame and success, securing him as a memorable figure of American sports and film. “When I walked out on the field, 20,000 people gave me a reaction: 10,000 booed, 10,000 cheered. That’s okay, I mean, they were watching me.” Fred received his nickname “The Hammer” for his confident and aggressive approach on the field, setting track records to this day that have still not been defeated, and this is the same approach he continues to take in his acting career and in life. Fred talked his way into a screen test for the television show Julia and was hired as the male lead on the show under a three year contract from Warner Bros., but that’s not all; he starred in many popular TV shows and movies, including, but certainly not limited to, Star Trek: The Original Series, M*A*S*H, Soul Train, Black Caesar, and From Dusk Till Dawn. Fred, who believed that the general public was ready for a Black action star, founded PO BOY Productions which has employed more minority talent in the past fifty years of its existence than any other production company.
